Mo-Green-A: A Rust To (Relative) Riches Story

In our first installment, I told you about some of the factors that allowed us to vastly increase the volume of grease we process -- things that made our work easier and more efficient. As I mentioned, we couldn't have accomplished many of them without a place to really call our own. This post is about that place, and that place is now called Mo-Green-A. The name, which might make little sense to you, is a corruption of our municipality's name -- the Borough of Modena, Pennsylvania. (See companion piece.)

These days, it's the property of the former Modena Foundry Co. that we call our home. And when we moved here from next door, the place was so abandoned and overgrown it's hard to believe the transformation it's undergone. There's still plenty to improve every day, but here's a peek at what we've painted onto what we saw as a blank, if dusty, campus:

It's still not shiny and new, but that's the point! The development of Mo-Green-A is spatial recycling at its finest.

Purchasing the foundry buildings gave us a place to prosper, but it also gave us the chance to offer other like-minded companies the same. Those companies are Organic Mechanics, purveyors of fine organic potting soil; Preservation Tree Co., promoting organic tree and plant care; and and Grass Roots Organics LLC., offering organic lawn care and landscaping. Not only are these folks our tenants, but our friends. Often, our work-day can feel as communal as it does commercial. And that's how we like it.
